The Aftermath....

 Hi all,

Hope all of you are staying safe, I think I've become a Netflix stock holder by now, as well as put on a few lbs. All of that gets me thinking about getting out and moving around at my next show. At this point, it's "ArtWalk Little Italy" in San Diego, November 7 - 8, 2020. Fingers crossed it won't get canceled. I'll keep you up to date on that. Now onto the "Aftermath."

The aftermath of "Christmas in August" was great! I just want to say "Thank you" to many of you that ordered. I never really know what's going to happen when I do a blog post...so I just wait and wonder when I hit the button to send it out. But, you came through.

If you missed the last post about "Christmas in August," here's the deal. Guess what I have for you using many of my original photographs printed on, "Framed art canvas, Tote Bags to carry your stuff, Cotton T-Shirts in multiple cool colors, Pillows for your special hang out place, Coffee Mugs for that cup of Joe, Face Masks for you and yours to keep you safe and show your pride, and Phone Cases!"

Moving on with Change...

Hi all,

Part of being happy is coming to grips with change. Today is not like yesterday and the way things are changing day to day, tomorrow will be unlike today. For me, I have no shows scheduled, which is totally new terrain for me. Thank goodness I've had a strong on-line presents with Facebook and Instagram way before all this happened. I was kinda steering it that way which leads me to this deal.

I've decided to put some of my most popular prints on my "Hot Buys" gallery on my website. The classic steering wheels. You can feel the power, beauty, speed, color and movement in them. Take some time and check them out. This gallery offers 20% listed prices when go to check out and use the code."Hot Buys."

Road Trip

The idea of taking a few weeks off in the airstream sounds good, doesn't it? Take the dog, have someone watch the cats. See whats's going on in Zion. Take photos in Bryce Canyon. Lose yourself a bit. You're allowed. OK, not in my image named "Solitude," but you can always dream....

This is a 16"x 24" gloss print infused onto metal and custom made re-purposed barn wood frame. It's wired, ready to hang, and be enjoyed! It can be yours for $450 including shipping here in the US.

Automobilia Monterey

Monterey back in the day was once a remote artist and fishing town along the coast of California, a home to the likes of John Steinbeck and Ansel Adams. Today, of course, it's the go-to place for auto fanatics during August. I'll be there too, with my fine art photography at Automobilia Monterey. Come visit, I'm just inside the door to the right Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. See you there!

Good things are Coming...

Despite an evaporating sense of what is real, or was once real, a few old things mysteriously hold up under the pressure of overexposure, and the onslaught of fame.

This is one of those things, a Ferrari 512 BB LM at speed.

As mentioned before, new images are on the way. This is one that has not been printed yet but will first be shown at Automobilia Monterey. As usual, this will be a 24"x 36" or a 16"x 24" limited edition, called "Speed Run."  Infused onto metal and mounted as a double float on special brushed aluminum backing, I'm offering the 5 artist proofs here, on a first to order basis. Please let me know if you would like to order yours to enjoy before being released at Monterey. Just reply to this post for info.

A Very Cool Show

Talk about an exciting show...did I tell you I've been selected as one of 120 artist to show my photography in the Laguna Beach Art-A-Fair this summer? I'm jazzed, and to add to the excitement, my wife Monique has also been selected to show her oil paintings. It will be an exciting, and exhausting show this summer. We'll be driving up a minimum of once a week for two months to work the show. Adding to that, I have my photography in the Laguna Beach "Gallery of Speed" and I'll be showing at "Automoblia Monterey" Embassy Suites during "Car Week". So as you can imagine, I've been burning my fingers up on the computer working on new images to show.

BTW. if you want free passes for two to the Art-A-Fair, email me your address and I'll get them in the mail to you.

Laguna's first winning seat...

With big-name drivers like Carroll Shelby, Jim Hall, and Johnny Von Newmann in the field driving machines such as Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari and Maserati no one gave Pete Lovely much chance of a good finish in the inaugural race at Laguna Seca in his two year old Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa. It was the year 1957, but there was a upset to be made.

Lovely's Ferrari 500 was a 1956 model with a 4-cylinder 2-liter engine up against bigger engine cars. Lovely recounted "I always remember that race, because it was the first race at Laguna Seca. Von Newmann and I were the main survivors because Shelby, McAfee, and Ginther had all dropped out with mechanical problems. Johnny's Ferrari had the newer 2.5 liter engine."

"I could get close to Von Newmann, but with his larger engine I could not get by. I devised a scheme to drop back so he could not see me in his mirrors. I then turned it on for a couple of laps and got right behind him on the last turn of the last lap. When Johnny saw me there, he got flustered, missed a shift coming out of the turn and I passed him and finished first making history in the red Ferrari."

Pete lovely sat behind the wheel in this image of an iconic car when he made history winning the first race at Laguna. I'm planning on printing this for my shows in Monterey this coming year. It's art for people like you, that get it! If you can't wait, I'm sure you could talk me into printing one on metal for you before August. If your interested contact me here.

New art, giant garage graphics, and more...!

New art! Yep, as I promised, I've been busy since returning from Monterey Car Week. Several new images have been loaded onto my website, and this is one. A very cool Ferrari image that still needs a name, so if you have an idea, let me know.

Also during that time I've been working with Garage Graphics to have my work produced in large printed formats. When I say large, how about eight feet high and twelve feet long for your man cave or garage! "Holy Colossal Batman!" Very cool, huh?

Garage Graphics, check them out here.

My new site images, check them out here.

Yep, the "Car's and Cocktails" Pre-Pebble Beach Celebration is coming up and you're invited. It's being held at the Rancho Santa Fe Motor Club and Storage. I'll be showing a few of my current fine art automotive works as well as debuting some new images that I've made for Monterey Car Week. The "375" comes from the per-cylinder displacement in the 4.5L V12 engine and the "MM" comes from the Mille Miglia. Enough of my infomercial...

This should be a very cool event with lots of cars to check out plus music with "Live Crew" an Eric Clapton tribute band. Register at the link to gain free access to the evening. "Four Cam"

Simple art is frequently the strongest art and occasionally the most popular as well. This is one of my double floats from the "Compressor Gallery Collection" with my custom double float design. Why this size, you ask? Some simply just don't have the room for the larger pieces, and these can be collected and grouped together. The gloss image is 8"x 12" floated on a custom brushed metal backing of 10"x 14" signed on the back and including a hanger ready to be put up and enjoyed. Be the first to collect one of these. $185 includes shipping in the U.S.

This one is called, "Four Cam." A shot of the famously designed Porsche engine by Ernst Fuhrman, the racing engine of choice in the mid-fifties. It's been an extremely popular image! Add it to your collection now. How can you say no...

Wild Horses...

You could call it..."wild horse roundup." It's actually called, "Along came the 918 Spyder" and just imagine the horses packed under this hood. It's one of the photographs in the "Metal Exposed" collection from the gallery show in Carmel this last summer. If you're interested in a double float print, just like was shown, and the sizes available send me an email for details, here.

Eclectic Gathering...

As an artist, I'm always looking to make my photographs stand out, not just for the viewer, but also for myself. In my journey, I have had a tendency to lean my images a bit to the raw side with an attitude, seeking out ways to make my work different from the norm. I don't mind breaking the rules as long as it's pleasing to the eye.

This image is from my "Metal Exposed" show in Carmel during Monterey Car Week this past August. It's a 16" x 24" dye-infused print on aluminum with a double float backed by 20" x 28" bright brushed aluminium. The image is an A/P called "Eclectic Gathering" as the 356 cars sit next to each other as to be talking among themselves. If one only knew what the conversion was about...

Eclectic Gathering
You may purchase it here and have it shipped to your door, or if you're in San Diego, pick it up at my studio on 30th Street, $995 + Tax, shipping included anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada.

Tent Shows, and Galleries, and Race Cars...Oh my!

It's certainly been a busy time. First doing ArtWalk at Liberty Station, unpacking general interest photographs that night as the show ended, then repacking my automotive photographs the same night for a trip up north the next day to show in a Carmel gallery during Monterey Car Week. Wow...I need a breather!

Really, what I want to say, is a big "Thank You" to all of you that came to ArtWalk, and the gallery in Carmel to say hi. And an even bigger thanks to those of you that added to your fine art collection by leaving with one of my pieces! We had a great time, didn't we?

BTW: If you want to see my pieces from ArtWalk or from the "Metal Exposed" show in Carmel, please check out my photo site at: JohnStraubImageWorks.com
