Monterey Car Week 2017, another one in the Books

Thanks to all of my blog followers that attended Monterey Car Week and visited my photography show. It rocked! You guys rock! A special "thank you" to those that purchased a work of mine to take home or placed an order. Looks like I'll be busy in the near future getting prints done and shipped. Hi all, well one of my favorite times of the year for car events is just about upon us. You remember how excited you felt just before Christmas or Halloween, yep I know that's kind of a funny comparison, but that's how I feel about Monterey Car Week. Super jazzed! Here's the deal, if you are going, I want to invite you to my automotive photography show and artist reception. "Four Cam"

Simple art is frequently the strongest art and occasionally the most popular as well. This is one of my double floats from the "Compressor Gallery Collection" with my custom double float design. Why this size, you ask? Some simply just don't have the room for the larger pieces, and these can be collected and grouped together. The gloss image is 8"x 12" floated on a custom brushed metal backing of 10"x 14" signed on the back and including a hanger ready to be put up and enjoyed. Commanding a Space...

Wearing the iconic Gulf-Wyer livery, 917-004 was the first car supplied to the John Wyer factory-backed team for the 1970 season. It was also one of the 25 original Group 5 homologation cars that Porsche presented to the FIA in 1969. Competing at the Nurburgring in 1969 it claimed an eighth place finish and the first 917 to complete a full race distance.

This print called "Number 9" printed in high gloss on metal was first shown at the Gallery by the Sea Carmel last summer, and became an instant hit selling several out of the double float edition of 30. When you see it in person, 917-004 commands the space, owning its real estate on your wall.

Occasionally when the moon is just right or maybe the sun hits me a bit too hard the idea for an image comes to mind. The thought of spending some time cruising at night with man's best friend, what could be better...?

"Four Cam" - Memories in your Hand

I had an urge to go photograph, but the weather wasn't cooperating. It was rather rainy and windy out at the time. So, I decided I needed to stop by a friends race shop, to check out what was on the burner. There it was, sitting in the corner half covered with a tarp, a "Four Cam." I blew the dust away and pulled back the cover. My first impression was the age old texture that was looking at me, not the milled out new stuff you see today. On closer inspection the time required to safety wire, as to say, "you'll finish the race," but then it sank in...how many races had this seen? A lifetime, I'm sure since the day it left the factory. If one could only hold those memories in your hand...

The image on top can be printed on aluminum as a double float. The same as the two images on the bottom example. The image sizes available are 16 x 24 and 24 x 36. Also the double float of custom aluminum adds 4" to those dimensions. They come signed and numbered with hangers on the back ready to be put up and enjoyed. Wild Horses...

You could call it..."wild horse roundup." It's actually called, "Along came the 918 Spyder" and just imagine the horses packed under this hood. It's one of the photographs in the "Metal Exposed" collection from the gallery show in Carmel this last summer. Tent Shows, and Galleries, and Race Cars...Oh my!

It's certainly been a busy time. First doing ArtWalk at Liberty Station, unpacking general interest photographs that night as the show ended, then repacking my automotive photographs the same night for a trip up north the next day to show in a Carmel gallery during Monterey Car Week. Wow...I need a breather!

Really, what I want to say, is a big "Thank You" to all of you that came to ArtWalk, and the gallery in Carmel to say hi. And an even bigger thanks to those of you that added to your fine art collection by leaving with one of my pieces! We had a great time, didn't we?

You're Invited to a Special Show!

One of the favorite times of the year for gearheads, Monterey Car Week! Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lambo's, Cobra's and more gather for an all out car fest of shows, auctions, racing, parties, and just flat out looking at everything with four wheels.

Now here's the exciting news for JohnStraubImageWorks. I'm having a show and rolling out a limited edition line of fine art automotive photographs called "Metal Exposed" August 16 - August 21, hosted by one of the top ten galleries in Carmel, California and you are invited!

So please take some time from racing at Laguna, the Porsche Works Reunion, the Concorso Italiano, the Exotics on Cannery Row, the auctions, the Carmel Concours, and the Pebble Beach Tour, and come into the gallery to check out my art. Speaking of the Pebble Beach Tour, that's the day of my art reception. So come early to get parking, check out the cars parked on Ocean Avenue and then come to the reception.
