It'd been awhile since I posted some new art.

With the continuing postponements of my shows planning to get the latest info out to you has been a challenge. For example in my last post I had mentioned the I would be doing the "Mission Federal ArtWalk" on April 24-25. That has now been pushed back till, October 2-3. However, this has not stopped in my from creating some news pieces.

The creation of every image production begins with a vision, and the conceptual feeling and emotion it brings about. Here's one of my new pieces that I will be first showing at "Automobilia Monterey" in August. However, with no shows before that, I'm offering the first print of this here in my email rather than holding off. It will be available in two sizes as "Artist Proof #1". Available as a 16"x 24" or a 24"x 36" both printed on gloss metal with a double float brushed metal backing framing the image. You'll love it! If you're interested in the A/P. please let me know.

It's the Porsche 908 that won the 1970 Targa Florio, driven be Jo Siffert and Brian Redman. It had a 2990 cc 8 cyl engine, developing 350 hp, and a top speed of 180. It weighed 1,100 lbs, an astonishing figure for a long distance racing car. In comparison the Porsche 917K weighed 1.900 lbs.

Stay safe my friends,

John

It looks like Mission Federal ArtWalk San Diego is going to happen on Saturday, April 24 - Sunday April 25 held again in Little Italy. I'm sure we will all be wearing masks, but at least it's going to happen! I'll post more news on this show as we get closer, and where my booth will be.

Now to something that I have been thinking about posting. It's one of my double floats printed on metal with the brushed metal backing. This image is called "Patina Queen" and comes in various sizes.

This '53 Porsche coupe wears its well lived life emblazoned on its surface for all to wonder about. What roads did it travel, what scenery did it pass, and did it make its way along route 66 traveling from the East Coast to the West where it ended up? Questions that may never be answered. But as you and others gaze at it, thoughts come rushing in. Can I make "Patina Queen" yours?

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-85303516024897478412021-01-12T15:49:00.002-08:002021-01-13T15:19:39.195-08:00Trust
Trust is a funny thing, it's very difficult to build and very easy to lose.

To build it, one needs to have a consistent voice. In the art world it's the same. The quality of the prints, framing, and presentation. For me the back of the art piece needs to look just as good as the front even though no one is going to see it. I guess I'm overly obsessed about that, but that's the way I look at it. My name is on it, my stamp of approval to say and being true to my word. I'm going to give you the best I can to hang in your home, office, or garage.

If you look at my website (JohnStraubImageWorks.com), I guarantee the finished print well look better than what you see. Speaking about that, I always tell my clients, if your ordering something from it, pick the "Metallic" print option. The response I invariably get, the print looks better than expected.

So, this bond of trust is something that I take very seriously.

To another subject, one of my clients called and wanted an image of his three cars and his new custom garage. I'm in the process of doing a 28"x 40" double float print on metal for him. It's still to be finished, but I can't wait to see his face when I deliver and hang it.

Stay safe my friends and hopefully I'll have some news about upcoming shows in the near future.

John

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-27537059508657165372020-12-30T16:40:00.001-08:002020-12-30T18:12:40.453-08:00Time to Move On
2020 to 2021, it's time to move on! I'm sure we'll all agree, it's time...

I would like to say your support this past year is really appreciated. With all my shows canceled, many of you were on my website and ordered photo paper prints, others ordered the custom limited edition metal prints, and still others ordered "Print on demand produces" like shirts, mask, phone cases, and canvas prints. Thank You!

I don't say this lightly, I couldn't make this crazy photography journey of cars and art without your support.

Here is to the best New Year yet! May it bring you all the happiness you deserve! I hope to see you at a show this coming year or at where my art is represented, Forest and Ocean Gallery in Laguna, or Veloce Motors The Vault Miramar in San Diego. Keep the Faith, my friends!

John

JohnStraubImageWorks.com

monique-straub-studio.myshopify.com

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-67112811057308764512020-12-22T19:07:00.001-08:002020-12-22T19:27:40.011-08:00Time For Some Thanks
I always try to look at things in a positive light. After all my art shows being cancelled this year, my on-line orders have never been stronger! So, I try to look at it as one of the best years of my life. As with you, we all faced challenge after challenge, we adapted, and we have overcome for the most part. 2020 has forced us to grow exponentially. I try not to take that for granted. One of the things Monique and I did this year was sale our house for 15 years and move to a new home. I now have a new work space that I love in our home to produce my art (See photo). So, Thanks to all of you that follow me here, your support is really appreciated! Again....THANK YOU!

I wish you all a very Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas! Please say safe, my friends!

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-27724304489758853232020-11-28T16:08:00.002-08:002020-11-29T07:51:51.713-08:00Some Holiday Spirit.
Hi all,

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I'm sure it was stressful for some not having your entire family with you, but hopefully the vaccine will be out shortly and we all can get back to normal life. Speaking of a little normalcy, the holiday trees will be going up, and with that I would like to introduce some Holiday Ornaments with my art printed on them,.

Have someone on your gift list who already has it all? Give them the one thing they don't have but will absolutely love. You can now order 7 different ornaments for your tree or as gifts for your friends. These are really cool ceramic disc with different Porsche models printed on them in vivid color. I've included the link to order one or more below. Where else can you find anything like these with automotive art?

https://monique-straub-studio.myshopify.com/collections/mugs-for-all

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-77374547795813781482020-11-19T15:35:00.001-08:002020-11-19T17:56:22.093-08:00Forest and Ocean Gallery
Hi all,

This has been a year like no other for us. If you may have noticed an increase in emails from me this year, you're right. With this covid thing going on and show after show getting canceled I needed to move to a more online presence. Luckily, I started building my online email list years ago. Thank goodness I've been able to survive the dark period, and with steadfast support of new/repeat collectors like you, move ahead. Thank you!

Those emails stopped going out last month. We've been moving from one house to another as well as doing a remodel on the new one at the same time. If you catch my drift it's been difficult to get emails out. Also, in my last post I mentioned I would have some exciting news coming up.

Well here's the news. I was invited to show my photography in the number one galley in Laguna Beach! It called the "Forest and Ocean Gallery." It's located at 480 Ocean Av, Laguna Beach, 1-949-371-3313. They're open during the week and closed on Mondays. Even though Laguna Beach has moved back into the purple color for restrictions on businesses, the art gallery is still able to stay open.

If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and check out my art! Why not get out and blow some dust off. I know you will love the 8 large prints on metal in person.

John

PS. Please forward this email onto your friends that may be interested! Thanks!

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-22132405932114062362020-10-13T12:22:00.001-07:002020-10-14T07:39:37.417-07:00Rising To The Top
Hi all,

Sometimes there's events that we attend and the best way to describe them as the "The Cream rises to the top."

Luftgekuht (Air-Cooled) was one of them in 2019 before all this craziness happened. For those of you that have not gone or heard of it before, it celebrates the Porsche air cooled cars with a special show once a year. These cars were made from the beginning in 1949 to the last one in 1998 (Liquid cooled there after). For the Porsche enthusiasts, they hold a special place in their hearts. The 2019 show held in the back lot of Universal Studios with over 6000 in attendance and 600 cars in the show, the high-lite was the awesome Porsche 917 set in front of a vintage movie theater.

I shot this image as a remembrance of that special day at Luftgekuht. It's available in different sizes printed on archival photo paper suitable for framing. You can find it on my website at the following link. Check it out.

https://zenfolio.page.link/39984

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-55139499360984355972020-10-05T10:26:00.001-07:002020-10-05T11:06:37.430-07:00Do I Hate Letting an Original Go?
Sold! This is my "Happy to sale an original, but sorry to see it go" post. With all this social distancing stuff going on, this one called, "Fireworks" was delivered to a collector in a Target parking lot.

One of my not so publicized botanical prints on canvas. I do these as "One off's" just for fun. So yes, these originals I'm sorry to see them leave. But, it's going to a good home!

I'll have some big news coming up at the beginning of November about a gallery I've been asked to show my art in, more on that later. So, stay safe my friends and start getting heady for the Holidays!

John

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-82048118502294331112020-09-19T18:28:00.000-07:002020-09-19T18:28:08.012-07:00Look Stylish...
Hi all,

I don't know about you, but I try to live in "Tee Shirts".... I don't think it's just a California thing. I see friends at car events always sporting something that says what they like. So for me, I try to wear shirts that give me joy when I put them on.

I'm not sure if you've had a chance to check out my "Market Place Store" with all kinds of cool stuff. My wife's art is also on there, so take some time and pay a visit. How knows, you may find just the thing you're looking for. Time to get some coolness on....

Here's the link: https://monique-straub-studio.myshopify.com/

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-46448227256996603992020-09-11T12:15:00.001-07:002020-09-11T15:13:16.342-07:00Something New....
Hi all,

With all this social distancing going on, it's left me time to work on something new. Some have had me working on their images for a print, others calling me for commissions, and yet others calling me with request for images to fit a special place in their home. So, for me I've been very lucky! I've had the ability to live with art during this period.

Which leads me to living with art is an undeniably enriching and emotional experience. I've been able to do it daily, if not with a camera, but then, on a computer creating. For example this commission. Cathy will be selling her car and wanted a shot of her and the car for remembrance. You ask, why the San Diego Stadium in the background and why the driving suite? Well, Cathy has been successfully racing her car for many years on tracks and got her start racing in the Stadium parking lot. That stadium will be torn down in the next two years. That's why this location.

You'll see how everything looked out of the camera with weeds, handicap parking signs, ugly paving, needing a new tree, and a better sky. As a fine art photographer I'm genuinely interested in the art of it all, especially in the finished piece.

PS. I'm sure your doing it too, as well as me... But, do you do it with "Art" on your mask? That is the question. And if not, why not?

Both my wife's very cool art, as well as mine are on masks that we have in our store. And we know you'll find something you'll like to keep you safe. These are two of our cool customers sporting two of my images available doing a selfie. Therefore to answer that question, why not have some awesome art on your mask when you head out? So, without hesitation, make sure to check it out at this link: https://monique-straub-studio.myshopify.com/

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-67811893999879234922020-08-23T09:28:00.000-07:002020-08-23T09:28:37.362-07:00Dog Days...
Hi all,

Hope you're staying safe as we enter the "Dog Days" of summer. The definition: The hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the rising of the star system Sirius, which Hellenistic astrology connected it with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, fever, and mad dogs.

Speaking about dogs, the image below is from Rick and Lois and their little, Putter. They're two of my awesome collectors! Rick emailed me and asked if I could print an image of their beautiful car being built at the Porsche factory and produce it just like my "Limited Edition" prints on metal. I said sure. The trick is, the image was only a low res file. To print it the sizes they were looking for took some work in Photoshop to upside and then clean it up all the unwanted pixels. After it was shipped out to them, they sent me this cool image of the print.

PS. It doesn't look like Putter is too mad, but rather pretty content!

Thanks, guys!

John

John Straubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10841429963939217535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703163705690654281.post-71008897765283502142020-08-14T09:03:00.003-07:002020-08-14T09:51:54.204-07:00The Aftermath....
Hi all,

Hope all of you are staying safe, I think I've become a Netflix stock holder by now, as well as put on a few lbs.
Part of being happy is coming to grips with change. Today is not like yesterday and the way things are changing day to day, tomorrow will be unlike today. For me, I have no shows scheduled, which is totally new terrain for me. Thank goodness I've had a strong on-line presents with Facebook and Instagram way before all this happened. I was kinda steering it that way which leads me to this deal.

I've decided to put some of my most popular prints on my "Hot Buys" gallery on my website. The classic steering wheels. You can feel the power, beauty, speed, color and movement in them. Take some time and check them out. This gallery offers 20% listed prices when go to check out and use the code."Hot Buys."
Well, sometimes. Every time I send out or deliver the "Artist Proof #1" as a double float on metal, there is part me that says, "Wish I could keep you." Just to see it on my own wall.... This was one of those, called "Can-Am Champ."

David, a lone time friend and racer, saw this on my blog a few weeks ago, messaged Sheree, "Check this out" and the next thing I knew she was purchasing it for him. This is really not uncommon for women to do this. When it happens, I think it's kinda' cool!

Thanks, Sheree and David! Enjoy!

PS. David has some very cool cars in his collection!

So, if you're poking around on my blog and see something you like, that's the plan, tell your other half......

Through all this slow down, glad to say I've had the opportunity to do some commission work as well as "JohnStraubImageWorks" on-line keeping me busy.

One of the fun shoots was for "Garage Style Magazine" in a totally awesome garage. The shoot was two stories down under a high rise. If you get the magazine, it's in the latest issue, if not you can pick one up at your local magazine stand. Here are a few shots to share with you, the first being the cover which was done in the elevator to bring the cars down and up. Check this out!

And subscribe to GSM if you don't get it...cool stuff!

Don't forget I'm always adding new images to my website, check it out. www.JohnStraubImageWorks.com

A while ago, I fell into conversation with an friend. He had asked me how I had become interested in cars and photography. I told him about how I would set on the curb with my best friend in front of my friends house and watch the hot rodder across the street work on his car. Neither of us were even close to our driving age and needless to say, we really didn't know what he was doing to his car, but it sure sounded good when he would race up and down the street with his '59 black El Camino! That car was so cool, jacked up in the back with chrome exhaust pipes hanging down. I can still remember it today and I still have soft spot for '59 El Camino's in my heart. Funny how things stick with you. So, I guess that's were the car thing started with me.

The photography part was home-grown because my dad was into photography with a dark room in our home. My parents would take me to the beach in San Diego before I could drive, drop me off with a 35mm camera and long lens to take surfing photos. The fun part was getting home and watching the magic in the dark room.

Life is not much different with me now, creating images on a computer at home rather than a dark room, other than no surfing images and no film, just digital. So, I guess this was kinda' an "Acorn story"...how big things grow from small things.

Now, even you know a little about me.

Just a reminder. I have some very cool Corvette images in my "Monthly Hot Buys" Gallery. Check it out and you can order a print or two with 20% off. Here's the link: Monthly Hot Buys

Thought I would tell you about my "Limited Edition" prints on metal and why I use it.

In my metal process, the ink is first printed on paper and the paper is put into a heat press machine, infusing the ink off the paper into a sheet of aluminum. The reasons I use this for these prints are several:

1. It presents with an awesome glossy finish that does not have as much refection as glass. This shows the print much better.

2. It's incredibly durable and UV stable. In fact the metal prints can be suitable for outside use.

3. This medium will clean easily with a micro fiber cloth.

4. For these "Limited Editions" I then mount them on a custom brushed sheet on aluminum 2" larger all the way around the print. The print is raised about a 1/2" off the backing.

5, They come with a hanger and wired on the back, ready to hang with a certificate of authenticity. .

Prints on metal do come in different surfaces as special orders, Matte, and Satin..

1. Gloss- My standard "Limited Edition" print. A shiny finish which creates the most pop in color in the image. That's why I like these!

2. Matte- Ideal if glare or excessive refection is a problem.

3.Satin- In between Gloss and Matte.

All three surfaces are a fantastic way to get that beautiful piece of art for you space. Feel free to reach out to me if you have a question.

PS. The print below is named "Underbelly."
Not that this was unusual, but my friend spied my phone. He asked where I had gotten the cell case. I replied I print them off my photo site and gave him a card. I guess if it's worth putting phone to ear, it's worth doing it in style. I've just added some new phones cases to my site, and it will only take a minute or two to find one just for you. And there is no better time other than right now to do it. I even have them for the "iphone 11." Here's the link to where to find these and many more: https://www.johnstraubimageworks.com/p166727666
It has me, but now it appears things are opening up. Maybe if I'm lucky, I may get out to do some shooting in the near future. In the mean time, I've been offering more on line because all the shows that I normally do have either been postponed or canceled until 2021. Boy, what a year...

Here are two custom barn wood framed archival prints. The prints are 8"x 12" matted with white, framed, signed, wired, ready to hang and enjoy. The one on the left is, "Filler Up" and the one on the right is called, "Henry." You can order them separably or booth. Each is $125 including shipping hear in the US. Isn't it time to one of my prints on your wall?
