Every so often something is so wicked, that it enters into our universe of automotive awareness, like a blazing comet streaking overhead. The "
Little Red Racing Car" is one of those. It's a story of a father and son discovering a forgotten 1955 Maserati 300S. A car that has passed its prime racing glory days, and was left to spend its remaining life sitting in a barn and collecting memories of the past, as the dust settled on the long lost sparkling paint.

So what's this all about? "
The Little Red Racing Car" is a children’s picture book. This all began when Dwight Knowlton was searching for the perfect father/son car book to read to his boy, with no luck. Dwight decided to create his own, the story of a father and son finding the ride, as the son spotted the forgotten car through a knothole in a barn door and reviving it's life by refurbishing and re-building the machine. But then it took on a new meaning, not only to create his own book as a gift for his son but for all car-loving families out there. The book has yet to be published, however here is the cool news. The undertaking has been picked by
Kickstarter, a funding platform to help with creative projects. The hope is to first raise enough to publish, then raise enough to create an interactive app, and finally raise enough to create an animated short-film.
Are the illustrations in the story book thought out? You bet, Dwight has purchased an CMC model of the Maserati as well as vintage photos and magazines for reference. I understand Dwight is still brainstorming other ideas, like a ‘certificate of title’ inside the front cover, whereby the child would be the "owner" of the car. Other ideas include a VIN number plate on the rear cover.
Also in the works, a book signing at the Peterson Automotive Museum and a load of books will be donated to Phoenix Children's Hospital to help spread the word about the coolness of old cars. To find out more, watch a shot film, or help support the project click on "
