Oh lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz.
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends.
So oh lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz.

...Janis Joplin...
In the song, Janis asks the Lord to buy her a Mercedes-Benz, a color TV because "Dialing for Dollars" was trying to find her, and a "night on the town." I'm not sure if she had much luck with all of that, however...this was a "Day on the town" at the 2012 Del Mar Concours for long time friends, Skip and Leslie Shirley. They showed up to present a pristine 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing for the onlookers.
Skip manages and prepares some of Tom Davidson's beautiful cars, the 300SL is just one of them. The '55 is clad in "Stone Gray" with a "Lipstick" leather interior, matching luggage and factory Rudge knock off wheels. Knowing they follow the blog, the camera just had to come along in my hands to record the car. So here are a few shots...
By the way, just as the song says, most of Skip and Leslie's friends drive Porsches...and they also gathered a "First in Class" for the day with the Mercedes. Not bad...I'm sure Tom will be pleased.

This is a brilliant post. Those cars are valuable. Mercedes-Benz is indeed worth to brag.
