That Time of Year...

As everyone is running around this time of year, thought I would wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Great New Year! With that, here's how they celebrated in Hollywood back in the forty's. It does seem as though back in those days, there was more time and money available  to decorate the streets....Can you just imagine cruising in the back seat of your parents car, taking in all the lights with wide open eyes.

Enjoy these photos and thanks for staying tuned into the blog! -John

Position of Importance...

Shuffling along at the last Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Rod event, came across this old gentleman.

I studied the multitude of blackened cracks in the chiseled face of this Pontiac Chief. If only the stories he could tell; the places traveled, the miles logged, the view of time above the V-8 from his patina perch. Most certainly a life well lived and a position of importance on the hood that gave him the ability to be aware of all...

"The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware - joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware."- Henry Miller

Only a Dreamer...

You know what I would do if I were one of the founders of YouTube? I would buy Roy Orbison's remains and also his 1958 T-Bird, because I love his music. Then I would set up the car with him sitting in it at a busy downtown corner. And then have a bumper sticker on the car that says, "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one." That would be awesome....

The Everly Brothers covered Roy Orbison's "Claudette" as the B-side of a record. "Claudette" was written in 1955 and it was named for Orbison's first wife Claudette pictured above. The first thing Orbison did with his royalty earnings from the Everly Brothers release was to purchase a new 1958 Thunderbird, which he loved. Sadly he left us and we can only listen to #1 hits such as "Oh, Petty Woman" and dream...

L.A. Auto Show...Rocks On

One of the must make events, is the L.A. Auto Show. This year the opportunity hit me in the face to shoot the Mercedes-Benz Concept car shown at the L.A. Auto Show. Really kinda' hated to put my watermark on this, because the image of the car should just speak for itself. What do you think about this ride?

If you want to make the L.A. Auto Show next year, you can find more info here to put in your favorites.
