Gullwing Dilemma...

Imagine designing a Mercedes-Benz Gullwing doors in 1954. The one good part, they didn't need to deal with safety regulations. However what happened if the car rolled over? I'm sure some found out the hard way. One of the big biggest dilemmas for the SLS,  the Mercedes had to be  produced meeting the newer rollover standards.  How's this for a question, what do you do to escape an overturned car if the doors are hinged at the roof? The answer... exploding bolts. If you roll an SLS, pyrotechnic bolts will blow the doors off of the hinges. Now you know...

Being a Kid...

I think most of us had some variety of a pedal car back in our younger days. Mine can be seen on the home page of the blog. This brings up the idea for a new post...the "Brits" and their pedal cars, Austin "J" Forty's to be exact.

Just the Timing...

While shuffling through the hot stagging lines at the local strip, this caught my eye. A guy sitting in his Willys just passing time. I grabbed my camera and pulled the trigger. After posting the shot on Facebook one of my friends made this comment..."The competitor with his hand relaxed on the wheel, the boot propped in the door well, and the look of earnest patience etched on his face. All inside the hollowed out cockpit of an iconic treasure..... it all speaks volumes." - Don Lawrence.

Yes it does Don...

Davis Three Wheeler...

OK...I know I like kinda' strange cars, but just can't get this one out of my mind. It's the Davis.

The Davis motorcar company was incorporated in 1946 to build cars based on a three wheel prototype called "The Californian" built by Frank Curtis. Davis had seen the car which was a convertible and apparently had taken a drive around Los Angeles in it. He soon purchased the car for himself. He then used the three wheel car to promote his new automotive company.
